Kings XI Punjab batsman Nicholas Pooran on Thursday hit the fastest fifty of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the run chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai. Pooran hit just 2 boundaries and 7 sixes to bring up his fifty in the in the 9th over.
Pooran brought up his maiden IPL half-century in just 17 balls, bettering the 19-ball 50 which Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson hit against Chennai Super Kings last month.
Pooran’s effort is the second-fastest by a KXIP batsman behind KL Rahul’s record 14-ball effort against Delhi Capitals in 2018 and joint-fourth fastest overall in the IPL. (SRH vs KXIP Live Cricket Score)
Rahul, Yusuf Pathan (15-ball 50 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014), Sunil Narine (15-ball 50 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017) and Suresn Raina (16-ball 50 vs Kings XI Punjab in 2014) lead the overall list of the fastest 50s by batsmen in the league.
Pooran’s effort is much-needed for KXIP as they chase a mammoth target of 202 against SRH in Dubai. He came to the crease when KXIP were struggling at 58 for 3 with KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Prabhsimran Singh back in the dressing room inside 7 overs.
Earlier, SRH posted 201 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to a mammoth 160-run opening partnership between Jonny Bairstow (97) and David Warner (52) after they won the toss and opted to bat first on a flat track at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
